Austin Peay State University Athletics

Atkins Family Beach Volleyball Facility

The Atkins Family Beach Volleyball Facility was completed in October 2017 as a joint endeavor made possible through the cooperation of Austin Peay's Intercollegiate Athletics Department and University Recreation Office.

Originally known as the Govs Beach Volleyball Complex, the Austin Peay Board of Trustees voted in June 2023 to have the facility named after former board chairman Billy Atkins and his family in honor of their support and the gifts they have given to benefit APSU’s women’s athletic programs. The facility was officially renamed the Atkins Family Beach Volleyball Facility on August 30, 2023.

Located in front of the Winfield Dunn Center on the corner of Marion and Drane Streets, the facility features three beach volleyball courts and is used by the Governors’ beach volleyball team and University Recreation. Prior to the 2023 season, Austin Peay added bleacher seating to bring the total seating capacity for the facility to 500 fans.

In April 2018, the Atkins Family Beach Volleyball Facility hosted its first tournament, and as part of that event, former Governors’ quarterback Trent Caffee and his family were recognized for their support of Austin Peay athletics with the center court named the Caffee Family Court.
