Biography

2022: Played in 10 games and made one start at running back in his lone season as a Governor… Carried the ball a season-high 20 times and rushed for a season-best 77 yards in his Austin Peay debut against Western Kentucky (Aug. 27)… Rushed seven times for 17 yards and his first touchdown as a Gov at Central Arkansas (Oct. 1)… Also had two catches for a season-best 12 receiving yards at UCA… Ran for 60-plus yards in back-to-back games with 67 yards at North Alabama (Nov. 5) and 64 yards at Kennesaw State (Nov. 12)… Also had a season-long 40-yard carry at KSU… Finished the season with 78 carries for 349 yards and a touchdown… Averaged 4.5 yards per carry.

Prior to Austin Peay: Began collegiate career at Western Kentucky where he was a member of the Hilltoppers for three seasons (2017-19)… Transferred to Jacksonville State prior to the 2020-21 season and played two seasons for the Gamecocks (2020-21). 2021: Played in 11 games with four 100-yard performances to post 714 yards and six touchdowns during the campaign… Scored a touchdown and rushed for 33 yards in the Gamecocks’ upset at Florida State (Sept. 11)… Notched first 100-yard outing of season with 107 yards on 20 carries against North Alabama (Sept. 18)… Scored a touchdown and rushed for 104 yards on 17 carries against Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 9)… Rushed for 100 yards in back-to-back games, going for 113 yards on 12 carries and scoring a touchdown against Central Arkansas (Oct. 30) followed by a two-touchdown day as part of a 17-carry, 119-yard effort against Abilene Christian (Nov. 6)… Posted 111 all-purpose yards – 88 rushing, 23 receiving – at Lamar (Nov. 13)… Closed season with career-best 102-yard receiving day with four catches and a touchdown at Eastern Kentucky (Nov. 20). 2020-21: Started seven of 13 contests throughout the fall and spring seasons in his first year with the Gamecocks… Earned Second Team All-OVC recognition… Collected Stats Perform National Player of the Week honors for his career-high performance against Florida International where he had 163 rushing yards, 38 receiving yards, and a touchdown against the Panthers… Was the team’s leading rusher with 773 yards and a long of 64 on 139 carries and had eight touchdowns throughout the season… Also caught the ball 14 times for 197 yards and a touchdown coming on a 54-yard catch-and-run against Southeast Missouri on March 21… Finished the season with a combined 970 all-purpose yards. 2019: Saw limited playing time for the Hilltoppers, finishing with six carries for 17 yards in four games… Opened the season with two receptions for 10 yards against Central Arkansas (Sept. 29)… Carried the ball three times for 14 yards at Arkansas (Nov. 9) in season’s final outing. 2018: Named to C-USA All-Freshman Team after rushing for 639 yards and a touchdown on 120 carries in redshirt freshman season at WKU… His 639 rushing yards were the most by a C-USA freshman and the fourth-most by a WKU freshman in program history… Scored his first collegiate touchdown as part of a 19-carry, 91-yard performance against Ball State (Sept. 22)… Notched his first career 100-yard performance against Florida Atlantic (Nov. 10), his 101 yards the first 100-yard rushing game by a WKU runner since the 2016 season. 2017: Did not play in first season at Western Kentucky.

High School: Prepped at Central Gwinnett High School under coach Todd Wofford… As a senior, Samuel tallied 972 rushing yards, and seven rushing touchdowns… Posted 75 rushing yards, 102 receiving yards and a touchdown against powerhouse Norcross… Samuel averaged 123.4 all-purpose yards a game and 5.7 yards per carry… Samuel was ranked as a three-star on 247Sports.com and Scout.com and a two-star on Rivals.com… He was considered the 101st-best running back in the country and the 184th-best overall prospect in the state of Georgia.

Personal: Joshua Samuel Samuel is the son of Shanea and Samuel Samuel… Birthday is June 6… Has two siblings: Jordan and Jaylen… Pursuing a second degree in leadership science at Austin Peay.
