Career Recap: Austin Peay
As a senior in 2016

• Appeared in 30 games, starting three contests, and batted .276 with five RBI.
• Led all Govs hitters with 17 plate appearances as a pinch hitter, posting a .286 batting average with three RBI in those opportunities.
• One of his three starts came in regular-season finale against Oklahoma, May 21, and he went 2-for-5 with a two-run double.
• Saw action as a pinch hitter in Govs’ OVC tourney game against Belmont, May 28, his leadoff single in the 13th inning sparking APSU’s game-winning three-run rally.
• Also victimized Belmont during the regular season, sparking Govs to extra-inning win on April 16. He led off the 10th inning with a single and, after a sacrifice bunt, later scored courtesy a wild pitch and a throwing error to break a 5-5 tie.

As a junior in 2015

• Appeared in 23 games, including nine starts in the outfield, batted .295 with two triples and seven RBI.
• Had two multi-hit outings, including a 2-for-3 effort in start at UT Martin, May 1, with a RBI and run scored.
• Had an RBI in three consecutive appearances – a pinch-hit RBI double against Belmont, May 11; an RBI double in start against Memphis, April 14; and a pinch-hit RBI triple against Southern Illinois, April 15.
• Went 3-for-4 in start at Middle Tennessee, March 31, lifting average to .429 at the time.

As a sophomore in 2014

• Appeared in nine games for the Govs in 2014.
• Mainly used as a pinch runner but also saw time in the outfield and in pinch-hit situations.
• Scored a big run to push the Govs ahead 6-4 in win over Iowa, Feb. 15.

As a freshman in 2013

• Played in seven contests, finishing season with .167 batting average.
• Recorded first collegiate hit in season’s final at-bat, March 29, at Murray State.

Career Recap: Apollo HS

• All-district outfielder in 2012 after earning all-region honors in 2011.
• Hit .297 with three home runs and 38 RBI as a senior.
• As a sophomore, batted .345 with 25 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
• During the summer between his junior and senior season, represented Kentucky at the Midwest Classic in Chicago.
• Was an outfielder for head coach Bob Mantooth.

Personal

• Wesley Coleman Purcell is the son of Thomas and Gloria Purcell.
• Born Aug. 29.
• Father was a baseball player at Indiana State, while his mother ran track and played volleyball at Murray State.
• Has one sister, Ryanne.
• A health and human performance major with a concentration in applied exercise science.
